Summary

In this study, powder compacts produced by mixed elemental Fe, Mn, Al and C powders without ball milling were sintered at 640(circle)C and 1200(circle)C, respectively. The results revealed that intermetallic phases belonging to Fe2Al5 and Al8Mn5 appeared after pre-sintered at 640(circle)C. When the temperature increased to 1200(circle)C, only alpha-Fe phase existed. The total porosities of the sintered samples were similar to 60 vol.% at 640(circle)C and similar to 70 vol.% at 1200(circle)C, and the peak compressive strength of the 1200(circle)C-sintered samples was similar to 1.6 MPa at the strain of similar to 11%.
