摘要
'Not in my backyard' (NIMBY) conflict is a common challenge faced by governments in operating the NIMBY facilities. This paper exploits the 2019 Chinese Social Survey to examine how Internet use affects people's acceptance of constructing garbage station (ACGS). The instrumental variable (IV) estimation reveals that Internet use can significantly improve ACGS, while environmental protection awareness (EPA) acts a mediating role between the two indicators. Besides, our results confirm that Internet use can increase ACGS for females and low-income group, but not for males and high-income group. The findings highlight the importance of Internet in promoting better public acceptance of NIMBY facilities and achieving sustainable development.
