A METHOD TO DETERMINE SHEET RELATIVE BONDED AREA USING THE FIBER FLEXIBLITY INDEX

By exploring the relationships among sheet relative bonded area (RBA), light scattering coefficient S, sheet density s, and fiber flexibility index (FFI), we have developed a new method for measuring the sheet RBA that can be used on-line. The result is a linear relationship that allows quick, convenient calculation of RBA during on-line operation. Refining and bleaching introduce only a modest over-estimate of the calculated RBA, compared to measured values, i.e., relative error of about 10%.
