摘要
Forty years after Kramer published Reality Shock: Why Nurses Leave Nursing, newly licensed RNs (NLRNs) still experience difficulties integrating the professional values learned during their education with their organizations' requirements.1 These difficulties arise because nursing programs teach a traditional nursing care role that doesn't meld with an organization's practice needs.2 For this reason, NLRNs find the transition period between graduation and proficient competency challenging during their first clinical employment. As they begin their professional journey, NLRNs need to harness their excitement and nurture their new careers. However, many NLRNS become discouraged because their transition experience is stressful, demanding, and fundamentally disempowering.
