A note on the recognition of PSL2(p)

It is proved in this note that a finite group G is isomorphic to the projective special linear group PSL2(p) or a affine linear group A Gamma L-1(8) if and only if vertical bar G vertical bar = p(p(2)- 1)/(2, p - 1) and (p(2)- 1)/(2, p - 1) is an element of N(G), where p is a prime and N(G) = {vertical bar x(G)vertical bar : x is an element of G}.
