Electrocatalytic Quantification of 5-HT Receptor Agonist Rizatriptan in Solubilized System

An electrochemical sensor based on the electrocatalytic activity of graphene (GRP) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the determination of 5-HT receptor agonist antimigraine drug rizatriptan in solubilized system. Lowering of over potential associated with rizatriptan oxidation indicates electrocatalytic nature of electrode. The fabricated sensor was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM). After all the experimental parameters were optimized, a sensitive and simple electrochemical method was developed for determining rizatriptan. The electrochemical behavior of rizatriptan on GRP/GCE was investigated by square-wave voltammetry in solubilized system of 0.12% cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Under the optimized conditions, the oxidation peak current of rizatriptan is found to be proportional to its concentration in the dynamic range of 20-340 ng/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.9978. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of rizatriptan were found to be 9.80 and 32.66 ng/mL respectively.
