On Huppert's ρ-σ conjecture

Let G be a finite solvable group, rho(G) the set of those primes that divide the degree of some irreducible character of G and sigma(G) the maximum number of primes dividing the degree of an irreducible character of G. We show that |rho(G)|<= 3 sigma(G). This improves the best known bound |rho(G)|<= 3 sigma(G)+2 given by Manz and Wolf in [6].
