Selective recognition of carbamate pesticides on a superhydrophobic surface by the phenomenon of droplet rolling is a challenging topic. Here, the alkynyl-calix[4]arene (AYC4) was synthesized, then self-assembled on Si-N-3 modified silicon surface (AYC4-SAMs) for rapid detection of methomyl. The AYC4-SAMs exhibited high selectivity/sensitivity towards methomyl via visual water contact angle change with promising reusability, which is potential application for the identification and detection of pesticides.
