A Rh(III)-catalyzed Csp(2)-Csp(3) bond cleavage/carbonylethylation of alpha-indolyl alcohols with allylic alcohols has been reported. This transformation involved a cascade C-C bond cleavage/C-C bond formation, and provides a novel approach to assemble 2-carbonylethylindole skeletons.
