Algebra extensions and derived-discrete algebras

Let f : A ? B be an algebra homomorphism between finite dimensional algebras. We prove that if f is split, the derived-discreteness of A implies the derived-discreteness of B; if f is separable and the right A-module B-A is projective, the converse holds. We prove an analogous statement for piecewise hereditary algebras.
