Summary
The present work provides a facile novel method for the low-temperature synthesis of Li4Mn5O12spinel, a lithium manganese oxide that can potentially be used for application as cathode material in rechargeable lithium ion batteries, in supercapacitors, in magnetic devices, etc. Pure Li4Mn5O12has been prepared using pre-synthesized nanostructured MnOOH nanowires as manganese sources and lithium salt at fairly low temperature. XRD, FESEM, HRTEM, and ICP-MS results revealed the formation of perfect cubic phase Li4Mn5O12nanorods. Based on the results obtained, a mechanism of formation of Li4Mn5O12nanorod is proposed.
