摘要

Paper documents possess significant cultural, history and art values. However, acidification as the main factor causes rapid degradation of paper documents. For the nondestructive protection of acidic paper documents, the highly stable nano magnesium oxide (MgO) organic coatings based on the synergistic dispersion of trimethylsilylcellulose (TMSC) and isopropanol (IPA) were prepared. It was clarified in detail by experimental and computational studies. IPA played a significant role in aggregation inhibition of nano MgO through the reduction of interparticle attraction potential to reduce the particle size. Meanwhile, the dispersion stability was further improved with the greater steric hindrance of TMSC (more than 1 month). The highly stable nano MgO organic coatings were applied for deacidification of the acidic paper documents via impregnation. Evaluation showed that nano MgO particles were evenly deposited on the paper, which has little influence on the clarity of writing by increasing the optical density of ink. Moreover, acidic paper after treatment, with a good alkaline reserve and anti-mold performance, is expected to have excellent stability during aging.
