摘要

A notable double-leaf planar cantilever design provides independent high force sensitivities in two orthogonal directions and has been used in a body of commercial and custom-built microtribometers. Friction experiments on such instruments are sensitive to signal crosstalk from component misalignment, interplay between cantilever torsion and bending, and tilt of the sliding counterface. We propose here a two-step dead weight calibration method comprising the attainment of the (1) transducer crosstalk matrix and (2) the cantilever torsional sensitivities. The proposed method could (1) eliminate signal crosstalk from multiple sources, (2) extract the true friction coefficient from a standard reciprocated friction test, and (3) guide the cantilever design for minimum crosstalk. @@@ [GRAPHICS] @@@ .
