摘要

The ethnic press plays a significant role in the construction of the immigrants'cultural identity. This study endeavors to elaborate the transition of the Chinese Americans'cultural identity from Separation to Integration during the 1930s and 40s through the text analysis of the relations between the Chinese Ameri-cans'community and the main-stream society of the adopted country, between the Chinese Americans and their mother-land, the original culture. The study reveals that the construction of the ethnic immigrants'cul-tural identity is more than cultural, and it is also an active or passive response to the extent of marginalization caused by the main-stream society in the adopted country.
